Results
Shipped in 4 months. Platform projected to reduce MTR handling times by 80% and handling costs by +$9.4M across 10 warehouses.
The Problem Space
The Oil and Gas Pipeline Material Test Report (MTR) is used to record various test data of raw materials, such as chemical composition, physical parameters, and so on. In order to operate and maintain oil and gas systems, such as oil pipelines, it is necessary to constantly access and review documents such as the MTR to ensure safety and compliance.
The current MTR process requires individuals to a) find a physical copy of the MTR that should be attached to the goods or b) contact the administrator to search for a copy of the MTR in their filing system. It is often a time-consuming and disorganized process as there is no standard way to store, search for, or locate a document. These inefficiencies result in construction delays, failure to pass inspections, and higher project costs.
Goal
Use Singularity’s Intelligent Document Processing capabilities to build a product that will digitalize (extract key data from and store) Material Test Reports and allow users to intelligently search for a component’s Material Test Report based on unique inputs such as the component’s heat number, diameter, size, etc.
Who Are Our Users?
Working with the client, I identified two key user types:
User Storyboarding:
I then imagined the context in which our users would use this product to achieve their goal.

Scenario 2:
User Flow
The Solution
SEARCHABLE DATABASE
Users can upload scanned MTR files, review and save the extracted results, and search the database using any of the unique inputs belonging to a component.
ORGANIZED, TRACEABLE MATERIAL TEST REPORTS
Field workers/inspectors can create lists of MTRs of the components assigned to them to inspect, creating a more organized, efficient and transparent way of consolidating MTRs for a project.
